A collector recently fell victim to a Facebook Marketplace scam while trying to purchase a 1963 Corvette. Believing he had found the deal of a lifetime, he wired $26,000 to a seller who promised the car was ready to ship. Once the money was sent, the seller disappeared\u2014leaving the buyer without a car and without recourse.<\/p>\n

I\u2019ve had at least one Corvette in my garage for the past 40 years.<\/p>\n
I was first smitten while in high school in a small S.E. Oklahoma town when the \u201963 Split Window Coupe made its debut. For years, I never saw one in person, but just seeing a photo filled me with resolve. My teenage hope at the time said, \u2018Some day\u2026\u2019<\/p>\n
It took 22 years for that day to happen, but it did with the discovery of a \u201963 coupe in the \u2018want ads\u2019 of the Dallas Morning News. A banker who believed in me loaned me the money to buy it. For 38 years, it was my constant companion. During those latter years, the \u201963 was joined by more than a dozen additional Corvettes.<\/p>\n
Then life intervened. I liquidated the entire collection, along with hundreds of neon signs I had assembled.<\/p>\n
I immediately had seller\u2019s regret on the \u201963. I finally found a worthy replacement, an original factory black\/black split window. \u00a0Its sole companion now is a black\/black C8 ZO6. I\u2019m done. I\u2019m out of space. I\u2019m completely satisfied.<\/p>\n
And I\u2019m still a Corvette guy. \u00a0That\u2019s never going to change.<\/p>\n
