Corvette Assembly Line Workers Are getting Ready To Strike over Jobs being Outsourced<\/p>\n

C8 Assembly Line.<\/strong><\/p>\n

The members of UAW Local 2164, representing the C8 Corvette assembly plant workers, have almost unanimously rejected the manufacturer\u2019s latest contract offer. The sticking point is GM\u2019s reliance on outsourcing a range of jobs to non-union labor. Negotiating better terms for sanitation and health and safety rank among the union\u2019s other stated priorities.<\/p>\n

GM\u2019s previous contract with Local 2164 expired two years ago, and although a strike isn\u2019t imminent its members have already approved one if negotiations with GM disintegrate.<\/p>\n

GM responded by saying, \u201cWe are disappointed that UAW Local 2164 voted down the local contract. We will continue to meet with the local union to understand the vote and will continue to negotiate. Our goal is to reach an agreement that benefits employees and positions our business to be competitive as we move forward.\u201d<\/p>\n
